Astana and Almaty don't feel like they belong to the same country — one is a futuristic capital built from scratch on the northern steppe, the other a green, mountain-ringed city that was Kazakhstan's capital for most of the 20th century.
This route opens with two full days in Astana — Baiterek, Nur Alem, the Grand Mosque, the National Museum — then flies south to Almaty for a week that mixes nomadic culture, a spa afternoon, the region's best canyons and alpine lakes, and an evening with eagle hunters.
In Astana and Almaty, we stay in comfortable 4-star hotels. Where 4-star accommodation is not available along the route, we use carefully selected 3-star hotels or guesthouses. In Chundzha, we stay at a 3-star hot-spring resort; in Saty, we are welcomed into the home of a local Kazakh family.

Breakfast is included every morning. In the cities, we introduce you to excellent traditional restaurants for lunch and dinner; these meals are paid separately, so everyone can order what they prefer. We also check allergies and dietary preferences with every traveler before departure.
